The Mayor of Walsall has officially opened the doors of Shire Oaks Court, the first Exemplar Health Care home in Walsall.
The Mayor and Mayoress were invited for a special opening ceremony at the newly built care home on Brownhills Road.
Shire Oaks Court supports up to 30 adults living with complex and high acuity needs.
The home was built to meet the shortfall of providers within the region to care for people living with complex physical needs.
After enjoying a tour of the home alongside Ami Narwal, Home Manager at Shire Oaks Court, the Mayor cut the ribbon and declared Shire Oaks Court officially open.
The Mayor and Mayoress spent the rest of the afternoon talking to residents about the history of Walsall and their favourite places in the area.
Commenting on his visit, Councillor Chris Towe said, “The Mayoress and I were delighted to be invited to the opening of the new Shire Oaks Court care home.
“It is a wonderful home, caring for people with complex needs. The team caters for individuals in a very personal way. I would like to thank you for coming to Walsall.”
“Much-needed complex care service to the region”
Shire Oaks Court supports adults living with complex mental health needs, neuro-disabilities including brain injuries and strokes, and physical disabilities.
The people we support often have a number of secondary diagnoses and complexities including behaviours of concern, tracheostomies, ventilators and PEG feeding tubes.
Many of the people who are now living in Shire Oaks Court have come from care settings that were unable to meet their care needs. Without Shire Oaks Court, people living with complex care needs would otherwise have a pro-longed stay in hospital, away from their family and friends.
Ami Narwal, Home Manager at Shire Oaks Court, said: “I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to the Walsall community as we embark on the journey of introducing a much-needed complex care service to the region. Our primary commitment is to enhance the daily lives of the people we support. We offer personalised care that fosters independence, cultivates essential life skills, and empowers individuals to lead the most fulfilling lives possible.
“We want to work closely with local health and social care professionals, the people we support, their families, and the broader community. By doing so, we aim to ensure that people receive unparalleled care and have their complex needs met within the comfort of their own community.”
Take a look around Shire Oaks Court
We’ve found that smaller group living provides a more homely, supportive and responsive care environment. Therefore, Shire Oaks Court is split into three, ten-bed communities, and each of the 30 large bedrooms has its own en-suite wet room.
We thoughtfully designed rooms to promote the creation of close-knit communities within the home. As a result, each of the units feature communal dining areas, living spaces and sensory bathrooms.
Designed to meet the specific needs of the people living there, the home includes a hairdressing and beauty salon, therapy room, activities hub, multi-faith area and access to private landscaped gardens.
The home was developed by Watson Batty Architects and Deeley Construction.
Eleanor Deeley, Joint Managing Director of Deeley Group, said:
“This is the first of three care homes we are completing in partnership with Exemplar Health Care and it is already a vitally important facility for people living with complex needs in Walsall. Shire Oaks Court continues a proud history at Deeley Group of delivering projects which bring lasting value to the communities in which they are based.
“This is a care home with state-of-the-art facilities which will provide the highest quality care for adults and is the benchmark for the standard of homes we will complete through our partnership with Exemplar Health Care.”
