Residents at Scotia Heights care home in Stoke-on-Trent invited Meg Baldwin and Sian McHugh from Port Vale FC’s women’s team to switch on the home’s Christmas lights.

The Christmas light switch on was part of the home’s Christmas fair which involved festive activities including a tombola, hoop on a bottle game and guess the reindeer name competition.

Meg and Sian spent the day chatting to residents and their families, taking pictures and signing autographs.

The Port Vale team members also helped draw the raffle prizes and congratulate the winners.

One resident from Spode Unit, which supports adults living with dementia, knitted some festive crafts to sell on one of the stalls and assisted the care home team with purchases made by family and friends throughout the busy afternoon.

Nikki, Activities Coordinator, shared:

“It was such a successful day and everyone really enjoyed it.

“We’ve previously had a visit from first team players in both the men’s and women’s teams. It’s really nice that they take the time to support their local community and we’re very grateful.

“Everyone had a great day chatting with the players and are delighted with their photographs and autographs.”

The annual event was a huge success and everyone enjoyed celebrating the festive season with their loved ones.
