Meet Elena Ali – Elena has joined the management team at Lepton Heights, our brand-new care home opening in Huddersfield.
In this blog, we talk about what sets Lepton Heights apart from other care homes.
What inspired you to work in care?
Whilst studying fashion at college, I took a part time position in the kitchen of a mental health care home.
After getting to know the residents I started to work on the bank as a nursing auxillary. Certainly, I didn’t go into this role expecting to make a career out of it, but I soon fell in love with caring for people and it came naturally to me.
After four years in the role, I started a degree and later qualified as a Registered Mental Health Nurse.
What drew you to Exemplar Health Care?
I wasn’t aware of the Exemplar Health Care until the opening of Lepton Heights.
Before applying for the role, I did my research on the company and was really impressed. I noticed how happy residents and colleagues were.
I pride myself on providing high quality person centered care, it's evident that we are aligned on this.
What training and development opportunities are available at Exemplar Health Care?
Lepton Heights opens next month, so the team are equipped with the tools, skills and knowledge to set the home up for success from the start.
We've attended a thorough induction to learn about the company, mandatory training and role-specific training.
The sessions brought together a range of experienced care professionals with colleagues new to the industry. We all learnt new skills about what person-centred care means, to learning about safeguarding and mastering communication.
We received face-to-face training from highly experienced Exemplar Health Care trainers to ensure the team are confident and prepared for our role.
Once we open and welcome service users into the home, we’ll have the opportunity to continue our training and development. We’ll up-skill our colleagues with further knowledge and skills tailored to the needs of our service users.
What do you think will set Lepton Heights apart from other care homes?
Those who know the Huddersfield area may recognise the building of the former Valley View care home. But the home has had an extensive refurbishment, transforming it into a new, fresh and homely environment.
The home is fully kitted with state-of-the-art equipment and new technology, to ensure the highest standards of care.
Technology plays a vital role in personalising care, giving people more control, more time to focus on delivering care and less on paperwork.
Colleagues can look forward to working with integrated digital systems and tools that improve quality and care. We’ve had some great feedback from colleagues in other care homes and even families of their service users.
I can’t wait to get going and making a difference at Lepton Heights!
What do you think people value the most about living at Lepton Heights?
Lepton Heights will offer a warm and welcoming environment for service users to live a happy life, in beautiful surroundings. Whilst receiving care and support from a caring and highly skilled team, who are raring to go.
We’re looking forward to working with service users to create a care plans tailored to their needs and goals.
We’ll support service users to spend time doing the things they enjoy. Whether that’s activities or services in the home, or we’ll encourage people to go out into the community, if they wish.
We have a dedicated Activities Team as well as an in-house Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist, so people will benefit a holistic approach to care.
What do you have planned for the first six months at Lepton Heights?
I’m incredibly excited to be a part of shaping a brand-new service and turning it into a huge success.
I hope my passion and enthusiasm for providing high quality care will influence each member of the team. I'll continue to build a highly skilled team, who all strive to deliver support with a similar passion and care.
In the first six months, the focus will be getting to get to know our service users and ensure they settle into their new home.
Our aim is to build a solid reputation within Kirklees as a highly professional, organised and caring provider.
We’re still looking for caring, compassionate and inspirational people to join the team at Lepton Heights.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a brand-new home, as part of a new team, so you can shape the success of the home from the very start.
