Summer time fun for World Photograph Day

To celebrate World Photograph Day in August, we encouraged everyone who works and lives in our care homes to take part and enjoy some summer time fun.

As ‘fun’ is one of our Exemplar Health Care values, we challenged our service users and colleagues to send in their best photos of the theme ‘summer time fun’. Where possible, we also encouraged service users to take the photos or get involved with the process as a great way to encourage engagement and learn a new skill.

We received some brilliant entries and we can now reveal the three care homes that came out as winners:

Here are a few of the winning photos.

Longley Park View

Papier mache seagull

Longley Park View chose to do a tropical holiday theme because, after reminiscing with our service users and looking through their old holiday photos, the majority of photos were of fun memories abroad.

They had great service user engagement with lots of help to make the fantastic tropical props, e.g. Polly the parrot, who was made from a washing up tub covered in papier-mâché and painted and jazzed up with feathers. Service users helped to paint the surf dude which was drawn on a big piece of MDF and cut out.

Thames House

Thames House enjoyed reminiscing about their favourite summer memories, and submitted photos that included a trip to Manchester airport, flowers, a day at Salford quays, Manchester United, and trips with Exemplar Health Care.

View over river

Red or blue? We have two great teams from Manchester. A lovely summer view of Salford quays and Manchester United football club.

Female service user in wheelchair

Claire’s best summer memories including enjoying the sunshine. Claire loves to be outside especially going to the pub.

St Andrew’s Court

Male service user in wheelchair with health care worker

Rodney took a keen interest in telling his one to one Health Care Assistant and the Activities Coordinator what to photograph, pointing out things of interest in the garden.

Homemade art in garden

Rodney spends a lot of time in the garden and he loves to sit in our summer house, he really enjoys the colourful flowers. He also enjoys watching all the comings and goings of staff, other service users and the birds flitting about.

We’d also like to say a big well done to everyone who took part in the competition. It’s great to see the engagement on display across Exemplar Health Care!
