The Mayor of Wirral visits Edgewater to mark the official opening

Last week, the Mayor of Wirral visited our new £5 million specialist nursing home in Wallasey, Edgewater, to mark its official opening.

During the event, the Mayor of Wirral Councillor, Jeff Green cut a ceremonial ribbon and unveiled a plaque to mark the event. He was welcomed to the home by manager, Sarah McKee, Exemplar Health Care executives, residents and family. During his visit, the Mayor toured the new home, and met with residents and the care team.

The Mayor of Wirral, Jeff Green, said: “Delighted to open the Edgewater care home this week. It is a brand new building designed and built to a very high standard. During my tour I saw that every room was personalised, spacious and tailored to each service user. 

“I was particularly impressed by the staff (Nurses and Health Care Assistants) to service user ratio, their culture and commitment to the service users and that so many of the staff live locally in Wallasey. I do hope that Edgewater represents the future of all care homes.”

Sarah McKee, Home Manager at Edgewater said: “We’re so thrilled to have opened Edgewater and to have received a warm welcome from the Mayor, Jeff Green.

“All our colleagues have a real passion for ensuring we deliver quality care for every resident, and we’re looking forward to becoming a part of the local community.

“Our goal at Exemplar Health Care is to contribute to the community by employing local people. We are pleased that we have been able to recruit local nurses and carers to support our residents, with more opportunities still available."

About Edgewater

Edgewater is equipped to provide specialist nursing care for 30 adults living with complex needs, including adults living with complex mental health needs and neuro-disabilities such as Huntington's disease and Parkinson's disease.

The home has 30 spacious bedrooms each with their own en-suite wet room, split across three units, over three floors. The home has an activities room for residents and families to socialize and a therapy room that provides a dedicated space for rehabilitation. The home is surrounded by a large landscaped garden, that’s been designed with accessibility in mind, and is ideal for parties, events and activities.
