When residents at Willowbeck care home in Sheffield decided they wanted to complete an Olympic triathlon, our Life Skills Team made it happen!
Completing a triathlon is a test of both physical and mental strength, consisting of swimming, cycling, and walking/running over various distances.
Residents at Willowbeck were determined to reach their goal of completing a triathlon. The team decided on a three day race, that both residents and colleagues could be a part of.
The team chose to turn their goal into a fundraising event, with the aim of raising funds to set up a community café and shop, in order to provide the people who live in the home with job opportunities and ongoing support from the Activities Team.
A resident from each of the homes seven units took part in the sponsored triathlon challenge, which consisted of a 10 kilometre walk, 1.5 kilometre swim and a 40 kilometre cycle.
Together they completed the challenge by walking along the canal by Jordans Lock in Sheffield and then headed to the local leisure centre to complete their 1.5km swim.
Finally, they headed to a local park to enjoy the weather whilst taking on the cycling part of their adventure.
Home Manager, Amber, shared “‘I’m so proud of the amazing people who took part in this challenge and the effort they put in to make it such a massive success.
“I’d like to give a massive thank you to all of our colleagues who helped, it’s just a brilliant achievement and as ever, whatever the challenge they smash it.”
