From karaoke nights and West End shows to saying "yes" to her fiancé, Leanne’s story shows how the right care and support can open the door to confidence, connection, and love.

Leanne moved to Quarryfields after her previous home closed. Since, she’s received the care and encouragement she needed to focus on the things that bring her happiness, including finding love with her fiancé, Jacob.

Building confidence as a Service User Ambassador

One of the ways Leanne has grown in confidence is through her role as a Service User Ambassador.

As part of this role, she sits on Exemplar Health Care’s Service User Council, where she shares feedback on behalf of her peers and contributes to company-wide projects.

Being an ambassador has played a major part in Leanne’s personal growth, especially when it comes to socialising and sharing her opinions.

“Early on, one of the Activities Coordinators asked if I’d like to become a Service User Ambassador. I decided to give it a go - and I’m so glad I did!

“I’m proud to be a Service User Ambassador and to be involved in different projects. My favourite thing is being able to share my opinion and help others in my home. It feels great knowing that we can work together to improve things."

Finding her spark at DICE

Leanne’s growing confidence has opened doors to more social activities outside the home.

With support from the team at Quarryfields, she now attends DICE - a non-profit organisation that runs activities and events for disabled people - twice a week.

There, she continues to build independence, meet new people, and try new things.

“When I first moved to Quarryfields, I was nervous about leaving the home, but staying inside wasn’t helping my mood.

“Three years ago, I started going to DICE with the support of the staff at Quarryfields.

“I go twice a week and take part in everything from drama and singing, to bingo and day trips.

“Some of my favourite experiences include a night out at Biscuit Billy’s in Doncaster, a trip to see ‘The Lion King’ on the West End, and volunteering in the DICE tuck shop every Wednesday - followed by a round of karaoke, of course!

“This year, I’m excited for a day trip to Skegness.”

Meeting Jacob and saying “yes”

One of the most life-changing things to come from the past year is growing closer to her now fiancé, Jacob.

With support from the Quarryfields team, she’s able to enjoy meaningful moments with him - including going on dates and spending Christmas at his family home

“We became friends over a year ago and have loved spending time together ever since.

“He proposed at one of the DICE events, with a ring he picked out with his mum. I was completely surprised!

“With the support of Quarryfields, we’ve been able to go on dates, attend events, and even spend Christmas together at his family home.”

A journey of confidence and connection

Leanne’s story shows the real difference the right care and support can make.

At Quarryfields, she’s been able to grow in confidence, build new friendships, explore her interests - and even fall in love.
