A group of people gathered outside a brick building with a "Welcome to Walton Grove" sign. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is in progress, with attendees smiling. An elderly woman in a wheelchair sits at the front; diverse people in uniforms and business attire stand behind. Decor includes green and gold balloons, conveying a celebratory tone.

We’re proud to announce the opening of Walton Grove care home in Oldham - our 60th service at Exemplar Health Care.

While reaching this milestone is an important moment for us, the opening of Walton Grove represents something far more meaningful. A new beginning for adults in Oldham living with complex needs and for their families.

Walton Grove provides nursing care for people living with complex needs arising from dementia, mental-health conditions, neuro-disabilities and physical disabilities. Our care will enable them to stay in the community, closer to their loved ones.

A special day for residents and families

The home was formally declared open by the Mayor of Oldham Borough Council, Councillor Eddie Moores. He joined residents, families, colleagues and invited guests to celebrate the occasion with us.

Although rain had fallen in the days leading to the event, it did little to dampen the warm and uplifting atmosphere inside Walton Grove. Smiles, laughter and conversation filled the home.

Guests enjoyed refreshments, explored the new surroundings and spent time getting to know the dedicated team who will support residents each day.

For families, the event offered a valuable opportunity to see first-hand the environment where their loved ones will live. The home provides a modern, welcoming space designed with comfort, accessibility and dignity at its heart.

“We are delighted to open our newly refurbished care home in Oldham, marking an important step in expanding our support for people with complex care needs. The transformation of the building reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care in a modern and comfortable environment."

Helen Lawson, Commissioning Manager at Exemplar Health Care

Designed for people’s lives

The home is designed to be a place where people feel safe, valued and truly at home.

The building went through an extensive refurbishment of the former nursing home before opening. It’s now purpose-built to support adults whose care needs are often too complex for mainstream settings.

Every detail is carefully considered - from spacious bedrooms that residents can personalise, to communal areas that encourage social connection, independence, and meaningful activity.

Our approach is firmly rooted in person-centred care. We work closely with residents to develop tailored care plans that reflect not only clinical needs, but also personal histories, interests and aspirations - supporting people to live fulfilling lives on their own terms.

Strengthening specialist care in Oldham

In declaring the home officially open, Councillor Eddie Moores welcomed the investment we've made in care services within the borough. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that people with complex needs can receive high-quality care close to home, surrounded by their communities, and support networks.

As our 60th care home, Walton Grove reflects our continued commitment to expanding nursing care across the country - helping more adults access the right support, in the right place.

A new chapter begins

Despite the grey skies, there was a strong sense of optimism and pride throughout the day.

Walton Grove now stands ready to provide compassionate, expert care in a nurturing environment - a place where people living with complex needs can thrive, build meaningful relationships, and feel truly at home.
