Kim Payne is the Registered Care Home Manager opening Exemplar Health Care’s newest complex care service in Mexborough, Potters Green.
When open, Potters Green will specialise in supporting adults living with complex health and care needs arising from neuro disabilities, mental health conditions and physical health conditions including those who have tracheostomies and PEG feeds. .
In this blog, we talk to Kim, the Registered Care Home Manager of Potters Green, about why she joined Exemplar Health Care and how the home will be different to any other she’s worked in before.
What drew you to Exemplar Health Care in the first instance?
I joined Exemplar Health Care in 2006, after graduating from the University of Sheffield as a Registered General Nurse. My first role was at Greenside Court, our flagship care home in Greasbrough. It was here I grew as a Nurse, and gathered valuable experience.
In order to pursue another opportunity, I left the company in 2012, but chose to return five years later, when I was delighted to be given the opportunity to manage Greenside Court.
The company has encouraged, developed and supported me at every stage of my career progression. I love to see the journey colleagues make through the wonderful training and development programmes we have available.
What inspired you to work in care?
From a very young age, I always knew I wanted to be a Nurse.
After I moved into management, I completed the Exemplar Health Care Leadership and Development Programme. This training has inspired me to support colleagues in achieving their own goals and to develop within the company.
What do you think sets Potters Green apart from other care homes?
Potters Green is a 20 bedded care home for adults living with complex care needs. The home is stunning and is situated in beautiful grounds. There is a large-landscaped garden area for those who enjoy the outside. We have therapy rooms which will give a full, holistic approach to the care we provide.
Unlike other homes, Potters Green will have a high level of staff. High staffing levels allow our team to provide truly person centred care. The care we provide is also enhanced with the addition of a multidisciplinary team on site, which includes a Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist.
All staff recruited will receive a bespoke induction programme to ensure they have the highest standard of training required to support our service users.

What are you most excited about once Potters Green opens?
I am delighted to be given the opportunity of managing Potters Green, our new care home in Mexborough.
I am looking forward to building a brand-new team, who have the passion and drive to make Potters Green a success.
Having reached an Outstanding CQC rating in another Exemplar Heath Care home, the dream is to do the same again. I will support the team at Potters Green to provide the outstanding care that the service users deserve.
