Exemplar Positive Behaviour Support training achieves certification by BILD ACT

We’re proud to share that our Exemplar Positive Behaviour Support (EPBS) training has achieved certification by Bild Association of Certified Training (Bild ACT).

This confirms our training meets the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Training Standards 2019, giving commissioners and professionals confidence that we’re delivering safe, ethical, and person-centred support.

What is the EPBS training?

EPBS is our in-house behaviour support training, developed by our clinical and behavioural support teams.

It’s designed to:

  • promote understanding of behaviours of concern

  • minimise the use of restrictive practices

  • equip colleagues with the skills to support people in a safe and therapeutic way.

What's included in the certificated training?

There are two levels of training.

  • Level 1 includes two days about positive behaviour support (PBS) theory, psychological support, self-protection, and breakaway techniques.

  • Level 2 provides up to 3 days of training on the safe and ethical use of restrictive interventions (where needed).

This structured approach ensures our teams have the knowledge to:

  • protect people’s fundamental human rights

  • understand and apply positive risk-taking

  • reduce the frequency and intensity of behaviours of concern

  • deliver tailored, trauma-informed, and person-centred care.

What does this mean for the people we support?

Many of the people we support live with mental health conditions or neurological diagnoses, which can lead to behaviours of concern.

With our EPBS training now certificated by Bild ACT, we’re confident that colleagues have the skills and knowledge to support people safely, ethically, and effectively.

Our approach often results in a reduction in the frequency and severity of behaviours of concern - typically within the first 12 weeks of admission.

“We fully welcomed the introduction of the RRN Training Standards back in 2019 as a much-needed framework for safe, ethical practice.

“We're proud that our EPBS training has now been certificated by Bild ACT. It’s a clear recognition that our approach meets national standards and supports the rights and wellbeing of the people in our care.

“The training is designed to reduce the need for restrictive practices and empower colleagues to support people in taking positive, balanced risks - just as we all do in everyday life.

“Each level of training is tailored to the needs of the service and the individual, which helps us deliver more consistent, person-centred care and better long-term stability for those we support.”

Mark Henry, Head of Behavioural Support and Mental Health

Ongoing development

As part of the certification process, our Behavioural Support Leads have also achieved certification as senior trainers - further strengthening our internal capability.

This ensures our teams can continue delivering safe, values-led care in line with best practice, across all our homes.

About the RRN Training Standards

The Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards were introduced in 2019 to create a national benchmark for training in the use of restrictive interventions.

They apply to all training programmes that involve any form of restrictive intervention, and ensure that:

  • training is ethical, proportionate, and rights-based

  • content reflects the real needs of individuals and populations

  • training is delivered by qualified professionals with in-depth knowledge.

Bild ACT is the UKAS-accredited body licensed by the RRN to certify training against these standards.
