The Lord Mayor of Leeds opens Exemplar Health Care's 50th care home

Laura Clegg, Home Manager at Hillside Court, said: “After months of planning, preparation, and team building, it was very exciting to finally open our doors and to get to work supporting people in Leeds”.

Hillside Court supports adults living with complex mental health conditions, dementia, neuro-disabilities and physical disabilities.

Without Hillside Court, residents would otherwise have been in hospital for extended periods of time. Our care enables them to stay in the community and reduces hospital and secure facility admission.

Exemplar Health Care has been operating for 25 years and is one of the country’s leading nursing care providers for adults living with complex needs.

Speaking about the opening, Laura shares: “Our whole team wants to create a warm, inclusive, and vibrant community where the people we support can thrive, families can find support, and where compassionate care is at the forefront of everything we do.

“We know this type of service is in high demand for individuals and families in the local area and our dedicated team is looking forward to working with local Commissioners, Social Workers, and families to make a positive difference to people that need long term nursing care and support.”

Celebrating our 50th care home opening

The special day brought together a community of individuals to celebrate a significant milestone in Exemplar Health Care's history. 

The festivities, organised by the home, were nothing short of amazing, creating an atmosphere filled with joy and unity. 

We invited The Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Abigail Marshall Katung to join us to celebrate opening our 50th care home.

After enjoying a tour of the home, the Lord Mayor spent the afternoon speaking to residents and their family and joined colleagues to sing a rendition of Hallelujah.

To complete the occasion, the Lord Mayor cut a ceremonial ribbon and declared Hillside Court officially open.

When designing our newest care home, we created an environment to support the quality of life for the people who live here. At Hillside Court, people can feel at home, continue to do the things that they enjoy, and remain closer to their loved ones.

We’ve found that smaller group living provides a more homely, supportive and responsive care environment. So, we wanted to create large bedrooms with plenty of communal areas. The home has three communities, and we gave each of the 41 bedrooms its own en-suite wet room.

We constructed areas to support close-knit communities within the home. So, each unit has a dining area, lounge, quiet lounge and sensory bathrooms. 

We’ve added a beauty salon, a therapy room, an activities hub, a multi-faith area and landscaped gardens. 

When decorating the home, we made sure the home would be visually attractive, with all the comforts of home.
