Shire Oaks Court is celebrating being awarded a ‘Good’ rating from its first Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection.

The home has been awarded an overall ‘Good’ rating as well as achieving 'Good' in Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led.

Earlier this year, CQC - the independent health and social care regulator for England - carried out an assessment of the home. In the assessment, inspectors spoke to people living at Shire Oaks Court and their relatives. The people and relatives were happy with their experiences within the home. They were happy with the care they received and the staff that supported them and their living environment.

The CQC report went on to say that people living at Shire Oaks Court were “supported in a kind and caring way”, and “treated with dignity and respect”. The assessment praised the home’s “person-centred approach” and observed that people “felt involved in their care”.

One person stated, “Staff understand me, and I can talk to them.” A relative commented, “The staff here are lovely. They are very loving and accepting. They love him to bits.”

An incredible milestone achieved within a year of opening

The CQC assessors further expressed that Home Manager Ami Narwal “should feel justifiably proud” of what she has achieved in the short time the care home has been open.

Ami Narwal reflected on the report, stating: “We’re very satisfied to receive such a positive first CQC assessment. It’s an incredible milestone to reach less than a year after opening the home.

“The team prides itself on creating a supportive environment and helping the people of Walsall get the nursing care they need. We want to continue to work hard to support people on their rehabilitation journey from hospital to community-based living.”

The home recently celebrated it's first anniversary having only opened its doors to residents in May 2023. The CQC rating gives colleagues another event to organise - a party to celebrate the achievement later this month.
