Hylton Grange is declared officially open

The Mayor of the City of Sunderland has officially opened the doors of Hylton Grange, the first Exemplar Health Care home in Sunderland.

The Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City of Sunderland, Councillor Dorothy Trueman and the Consort of the City of Sunderland, Councillor Harry Trueman were invited for a special opening ceremony at the newly built care home on Poole Road.

Hylton Grange supports up to 30 adults living with complex and high acuity needs

The home is Exemplar Health Care’s third home built in the North East. Hylton Grange was built to meet the demand for local nursing care and support for people living with neuro-disabilities and complex physical needs.

Without Hylton Grange, residents would otherwise have been in hospital for extended periods of time.

The Mayor and Consort enjoyed an afternoon speaking with colleagues, residents and their families during the celebrations.

Commenting on her visit, Mayor Dorothy Trueman said, “I am delighted to open Hylton Grange, which is meeting demand for a high-quality care setting tailored to those with complex and long-term needs in the city.

“This new nursing home is an impressive building, tailored to the needs of the people living here with many small and thoughtful touches that will make day-to-day far easier.

“The staff team’s passion and enthusiasm was inspiring, and I’m certain this will be a strong community asset for the future.”

Take a look around Hylton Grange

Hylton Grange care home creates an environment which supports the quality of life of the people who live here. We’ve found that smaller group living provides a more homely, supportive and responsive care environment. Therefore, Hylton Grange is split into three, ten-bed communities, and each of the 30 large bedrooms has its own en-suite wet room.

We carefully designed rooms to encourage close-knit communities within the home. As a result, each of the units have communal dining areas, living spaces and sensory bathrooms.

The home features a hairdressing and beauty salon, therapy room, activities hub, multi-faith area and private landscaped gardens.

When designing the home, we made sure the home would be visually attractive, with all the comforts of home.
