Throughout the month of November, people across Exemplar Health Care came together to pay our respects to those who have served and sacrificed so much for us on Remembrance Day, celebrated Bonfire Night in a variety of ways and organised events to raise money for Children In Need.

Lest we forget

Every year people who work and live with us like to pay their respects and remember those who fought and served for our country on Armistice Day.

Some of our homes create beautiful displays in the windows and in public areas, dedicated to honouring the poppies which are a symbol of both Remembrance and hope for a peaceful future.

Parkside care home in Tipton dedicated one of their activities sessions to making poppies to display in their window for passers-by to admire.

Across our Exemplar Health Care homes, we have many veterans or ex-military persons who now live with us.

At one of our newer homes in Walsall, Shire Oaks Court, one resident told stories to care and activities colleagues of his 30 years in service as they decorated the home.

Clare, Activities Coordinator, shared: “With over 30 years of service it was an honour to listen to his stories as he gave me a helping hand.”

Lighting up the sky on Bonfire Night

Traditionally, communities come together on bonfire night to watch beautiful firework displays and gather round the fire with pie and peas.

At Exemplar Health Care, we encourage the people who live with us to remain and active member of their local communities, and support them to engage with events nearby.

Joel, Stephan and Lee all had a brilliant time when they wrapped up and ventured out locally from Bennett Court to visit Hemsworth Bonfire Night and enjoy the big bangs.

Scotia Heights decided to celebrate in the comfort of their own home by enjoying sparklers in the courtyard and carrying on the party inside with karaoke in the pub.

Longley Park View even made their very own Guy Fawkes for the big night in their activities session.

Raising money for charity

In our homes, we like to give back to the local community and those who need it the most, so when the opportunity arises for an organised fundraiser – we get stuck in!

This year for Children In Need, we saw a variety of different fundraisers across our Exemplar Health Care homes.

Woolston House in Warrington decided to organised a mammoth 12 hour sponsored danceathon.

Between the hours of 08:00-20:00 at least one colleague or resident from the home was dancing continuously in the hub at any one time.

Everyone had a great time busting some moves and they raised some well-earned money for charity.

Edgewater care home in Wallasey also came together to fundraise for Children In Need and raised almost £200 by completing a sponsored walk, hosting a pyjama day and putting on a bake sale.
